University Heights launches monthly speaker series

0

In April, the University Heights Neighborhood Association launched a monthly speaker series exploring all sorts of topics of interest to the neighborhood.

The series kicked off April 6 with Master Gardener and UHNA treasurer Donelle Blubaugh talking about how to get rid of invasive species such as the particularly vigorous winter creeper, or climbing euonymus. This invader can choke out native plants crucial to a healthy ecology and is notoriously difficult to eradicate. She’ll offer insight on how to win the battle with this woody vine.

The board is asking neighbors to offer topics they are interested in learning more about by emailing uhnasgf@gmail.com.

Topics already in the works include crime and safety discussions, landscaping to deter crime, native gardening advice and more.

The speaker series is held as part of UHNA’s monthly board meeting, which is at 5:30 p.m. the first Wednesday of each month. The board currently meets via Zoom, but as weather warms, they look forward to meeting in person. Stay tuned for updates.
