As recipients of this grant, students at these schools will receive an additional fresh fruit or fresh vegetable as snack usually twice a week outside of regular meal times.
“We will send out a monthly calendar the week prior to the actual month along with educational information and fun facts about the items the kiddos are trying,” said Kim Keller, assistant director of Nutrition Services for SPS. “We will also send activity sheets to the secretaries to forward so that your teachers can use them to talk about the fruit or vegetable being offered.”
The upcoming school year will offer this program at more sites than ever before, Keller said.
