Northwest Springfield residents can satisfy their midnight – or anytime – craving for books, movies music CDs and audiobooks at the new 24-hour Library Express West.
It’s the first 24/7 automated library service provided by the Springfield-Greene County Library District, and the first in Missouri. The kiosk officially opened on Feb. 6 at its permanent site on the parking lot of Orchard Plaza, 3872 W. Chestnut Expressway.
Visitors can browse the items in the machine, swipe their library card or key in their number and select the item number. The item drops into a drawer for pick up. There’s something for all ages.
Patrons can also go online and request an item from thelibrary.org/catalog to have it delivered to Library Express West. They can also request an item on the kiosk’s touch screen, and they can return items checked out from there or any other library branch.
Library Express West was funded by the Friends of the Library, with additional support from a Library Services and Technology Act grant administered by the State Library of Missouri.
