From the March edition of the C-Street News & World Report e-blast, published by the Commercial Club of Springfield
Prosperiti Development’s plans for the 400 block of Commercial, reaching down into Midtown to about a half block south of Pacific, are well underway. There have been informal meetings with merchants and neighbors and we await many more formal and in depth discussions in the near future. As you can see from the early rendering, the scale of this development to C-Street is massive and while it has the potential to be exciting with retail, hotel and single-family, market-rate housing opportunities, there are important impacts on traffic and parking for surrounding neighborhoods that will need to be addressed in a sensitive and collaborative way.
An initial vacation of an alleyway in Midtown between Jefferson and Benton which runs north and south is the first item that will make its way to City Council. Another issue related to the removal of this property from Commercial Street’s TIF district is incredibly sensitive. C-Street will certainly be at the table as these issues make their way through the development process.
