How about a program that requires no meetings, is good exercise and helps make our neighborhood cleaner, safer and friendlier?
Motivated in part by the Neat Neighborhoods Initiative, last spring, BNA was looking for such a program. We started connecting dots, and as a result the Bissett Trash Troopers was launched! We found that there are quite a few Bissett folks who take walks around the neighborhood and others who might want to, but have lacked motivation.
At the same time, it is all too frequent that litter gets thrown from cars or blows in and clutters up our roadways. We figured one way to help solve that problem is if the folks out walking take a bag along and pick up litter, and voila, the Bissett Trash Troopers program was born! Our intrepid trekkers simply do that and keep track of the days they were a Trash Trooper. All Troopers who performed eight pickup walks or more by the end of August will be celebrated at BNA’s October general membership meeting with a free meal, a certificate and a chance at a prize! As of late August, we’ve had more than 100 trash pickup walks done by 16 Trash Troopers. We’re really pleased with the start of this program and aim to grow it in the future.
