Brentwood’s Unity church celebrates 90th birthday

On June 24, Unity of Springfield celebrated its 90th Birthday. The celebration included a cook-out, live music from local artist Dallas Jones, kids’ activities such as face painting, numerous giveaways, and of course, birthday cake. It was a wonderful time of connection and fellowship.

In addition to its own church ministry, Unity gets out into the CommUnity. Each year, Earth Day is celebrated with Planet Unity which is a day-long festival geared towards education and celebration of things we can do for our environment. From November through March, Unity operates a Cold Weather Crisis Shelter. The CommUnity Cupboard is one of the few no barrier food pantries in the area. There is food available 24/7 in the parking lot and indoors M-Th 10-4. Unity supports a number of unsheltered and food insecure families with this food ministry and your unexpired donations are always welcome.

Weekly events include African Drumming, a book discussion group,  two Al-Anon group meetings, and an Abraham/Hicks discussion group. On the first Thursday of every month, Unity hosts a Drum Circle. There are extra instruments for those who are just wanting to check it out. Upcoming events at Unity include Diversity Game Night, psychic medium Steffany Barton, a concert with Daniel Nahmod, and an Artist Showcase.
