The City of Springfield invites residents to Boo at the Bin, a family-friendly night of fun and recycling 6-9 p.m., on Thursday, Oct. 24 at the Franklin Avenue Recycling Center, 731 N. Franklin Ave.
Staff from the City’s Environmental Services and Public Works departments will be on hand with a variety of equipment, activities and treats to help families learn about recycling and other City resources and services. Staff will greet guests in full costume sharing trivia and a treat as attendees make their way around various stations. Families are encouraged to dress up in their favorite family-friendly costumes.
“The Franklin Avenue Recycling Center is a bustling, efficient facility that is familiar to many, but can be hard to find to new visitors,” says Education Outreach Coordinator Laurie Davis. “We’re excited to use a little Halloween fun to highlight the location of this ‘hidden gem’ and strengthen the facility’s connection with the surrounding neighborhoods and the entire community.”
The Franklin Avenue Recycling Center is one of three City-managed recycling drop-off facilities in Springfield and is conveniently located on the edge of the Phil Broyles Public Works Complex, the operational headquarters of Springfield Public Works and several Environmental Services divisions.
The recycling center will be closed to general recycling drop-off functions during this after-hours event to allow for safe parking and pedestrian access around the facility. To drop off recycling, please visit the facility during normal operating hours 8 a.m.-5 p.m., Tuesday-Saturday.
