Concert at the Cave exceeds expectations

Early in 2016, the Doling Neighborhood Association thought a concert in Doling Park would be a great community building activity. Little did we know that it would become so much more.

On July 9, close to 500 people gathered in Doling Park to enjoy music, the park, tour Giboney Cave and meet their neighbors. Co-sponsored by DNA and Springfield-Greene County Park Board, Concert at the Cave featured Jerry Jacob of KSPR as emcee and three local bands – Adams Boulevard, Red Shoe Pickers, and the Earth Tones. The Park Board offered tours of historic Giboney Cave, which were sold out by 10:30 a.m. Mexican Villa Catering served free chips and sauces to over 300 guests.

Concessions were provided by the Park Board and Doling and Woodland Heights neighborhoods set up booths to meet with residents.

Demand for a second Concert at the Cave was immediate and plans began for the next event in 2017, most likely in the fall.
