Kidde, a fire safety manufacturer, has issued a recall of 40 million fire extinguishers. Springfield residents who received a free fire extinguishers from the Springfield Fire Department from August 2016 through August 2017 may be affected.
Reason for Product Recall
The fire extinguishers can become clogged or require excessive force to discharge and can fail to activate during a fire emergency. In addition, the nozzle can detach with enough force to pose an impact hazard. All affected models need to be replaced.
There have been approximately 391 reports of failed or limited activation or nozzle detachment, including one fatality, approximately 16 injuries, and approximately 91 reports of property damage.
