The WNBA members have been having fun the last couple of months. Neighborhood Night Out was a great September event at Westport Park. We were able to meet neighbors and had a time of fellowship. Everyone enjoyed Domino’s pizza. The snowcone and popcorn machines were a big hit with the kids!! It was a beautiful day and the weather could not have been better.
The neighborhood cleanup was one of the October projects for the Westside Neighborhood Betterment Association. Three trash dumpsters and three brush dumpsters were filled. We served 91 households. Plus, we even had two teams drive around picking up trash, mattresses and furniture.
The Westport Elementary trunk or treat was a fun ending to October. Our “trunk” was a jack’o’lantern. It was great fun to see all those smiling faces of the Westport students.
In November, we participated in the Bass Pro Marathon Neighborhood Cheering teams. The Great Outdoors was our theme. Our station was decorated with hunting blinds, a log cabin and campfire, a boat and a fishing pole. We even went a little prehistoric with a dinosaur, since they were once part of the great outdoors. It was a little rainy, but it was a great and fun time cheering for the marathon runners.
December brought our Holiday Basket project with WNBA neighbors knocking on doors with small baskets of goodies for homes decorated for the holiday season.
Come join in the fun and help us make our neighborhood better. We meet the second Tuesday of the month at 6:30 p.m. at Golden Avenue Baptist Church, (558 S. Golden Ave.) We invite you to come to a meeting. It’s a great way to meet new people. We welcome new ideas to make our neighborhood better.
