It’s been an exciting summer in Galloway Village as residents jumped into the Neat Neighborhoods contest and spent many hours brainstorming, implementing and participating in neighborhood beautification projects. The association covers a large and diverse area and residents have always taken a lot of care to maintain the neighborhood. When the leadership team began to plan specific beautification events, we turned to our association members to help identify areas of the community that needed a little extra love.
Association members identified multiple areas where litter accumulates. We organized several Tidy Tuesday cleanups on Gasconade near Highway 65; Mentor between Republic Road and Independence; Republic Road between Mentor and Luster; and, coordinating with an established road adopter, on Luster between Republic Road and Galloway Street. We collected more than 30 bags of trash in these areas.
To raise awareness of the problem of cigarette butts and miniature liquor bottles, we held a Butts and Bottles contest to award the individual who collected the most with a prize. The contest was a huge success and, as a community, we collected more than 800 cigarette butts and 200 miniature liquor bottles!
Galloway’s green spaces are especially important to residents and visitors alike. We held two stream cleanups, as well as a cleanup of the Ozarks Greenway trail through the entire length of the neighborhood. We also completed a Sequiota Park cave cleanup.
As a grand finale to the Neat Neighborhoods summer, we planned a renovation of the Sequiota Park pavilion. The pavilion was power washed, years of tape removed, and the structure repainted. The result will be enjoyed by park-goers for years to come!
To celebrate a successful summer of beautifying the neighborhood, a Picnic in the Park and Back to School Bash was held. As neighbors gathered to enjoy food and music, everyone looked back on all that was accomplished and felt thankful to live in such a great neighborhood.
