Greater Parkcrest Neighborhood Association proud to support Horace Mann

0

For probably a majority of us who still live in the Parkcrest/ Village Greene area, our children attended Horace Mann Elementary School. While almost everything has changed in the world as of the last several decades, some things haven’t and one of those is supporting the children and staff of the school.

While this writer’s children now have children of their own, the memories certainly remain.

I remember Fun Night each year in October. You could smell the famous Horace Mann chili being made in  the kitchen and hear the shouts and laughter of children as they played games in the classrooms.

Naming the bald eagle that the PTA had “adopted” through Dickerson Park Zoo was special. One day to the  surprise of the students, “Horace” came to the school for a visit with zoo staff.

Neighborhood support for Horace Mann was a fibers that ran strong for students who needed help. While the efforts were quietly given, it was certainly positive for those students receiving help. Now that we are officially a neighborhood association ,our business membership for the PTA and other quiet donations continue to be made at Horace Mann Elementary.
