Roadway and signal improvements are coming soon to the intersection of National Avenue and Division Street as the City recently completed a contractor bid process for the project.
The National and Division Intersection Improvement Project will include geometric improvements in coordination with the railroad crossing, new traffic signals, pavement improvements, Americans with Disabilities Act-compliant pedestrian facilities, as well as new sidewalk and multi-use path connections. BNSF Railway will complete railroad crossing improvements within the intersection and City Utilities will improve gas, water and electric utilities.
One lane of traffic flow through in each direction is expected to remain for a large part of construction duration. However, work on the railroad crossing and integration with the intersection will require the near full closure of the intersection for more than a month sometime this fall. The City will communicate traffic impacts as a construction schedule and details become available.
The project is estimated to cost $2.6 million and will be funded through a combination of the1/4-cent Capital Improvement and 1/8-cent Transportation sales taxes, reimbursements from City Utilities for the cost of utility improvements, as well as a $750,000 Missouri Highways and Transportation Commission highway/rail crossing grant.
Completion expected by late winter.
