Good Neighbor Week Celebration
The Brentwood neighborhood will participate in the Good Neighbor Week Celebration at Sequiota Park on Oct. 4. This event is designed to coincide with Missouri’s Good Neighbor week, Sept. 28-Oct. 4. Missouri’s Good Neighbor Week encourages citizens of Missouri to “participate in events and activities to establish connections with their neighbors.” The 2023 goal of the organization is to document 15,000 acts of “neighboring” in the state of Missouri. In the future, the Brentwood neighborhood hopes to support their efforts by establishing one day a year in which the residents of our neighborhood can make an intentional effort to help one another with household repairs, chores, clean up…or simply provide any small gestures of kindness. But, for now, we will join the City of Springfield in their celebration. More information about this event will be released soon. In the meantime, we encourage our Brentwood residents to be thinking about how they can benefit their neighbors through acts of kindness and we encourage you to check out this list provided by KY3 at https://www.ky3.com/2021/07/20/ky3-kids-100-acts-kindness/.
Lantern Walk
October marks National Pedestrian Safety Month. Since 2021, Springfield has initiated annual Lantern Walks to creatively raise awareness about our most vulnerable road users. Organized by the pedestrian safety program SGF Yields, the City of Springfield collaborates with neighborhoods for these walks. Residents, schools, and families are urged to craft and adorn luminaries before the event. On the initial Saturday of October, at sunset, participants stroll with lit lanterns along a designated path. The route features stations where kids learn about safe walking, drivers understand crosswalk laws, and parents practice secure street crossings with their children. Residents along the way can enhance the autumn walk’s charm by illuminating sidewalks and cheering for the lantern-bearing children.
A one-mile route has been established for the Brentwood neighborhood with our Fall Social to follow. More information will be released soon and members of the association’s social committee may be knocking on your door soon to solicit your help in making this a great event for the neighborhood!
