MoDOT closes Sunshine Street bridge for reconstruction

The Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) in March closed the Missouri Route 413 (Sunshine Street) bridge over the Missouri & Northern Arkansas Railroad (MNA) tracks east of Scenic Avenue for reconstruction and improvements. The bridge will be closed for at least four months.

The current bridge, built in 1963, carries more than 26,000 vehicles per day. The project will replace the aging bridge structure and provide pedestrian facility improvements on both sides of the roadway from Scenic Avenue to Marion Avenue. Westbound Sunshine Street from Kansas Expressway will have a single lane open to businesses with a traffic shift. Eastbound traffic on Sunshine Street should expect a single-lane closure but will have access to north and southbound Scenic Avenue at the intersection.

Drivers are urged to use alternate routes. Posted detours will direct motorists to use James River Freeway, Kansas Expressway, Chestnut Expressway and U.S. Route 160 to avoid the work zone. Electronic message boards and news releases will be used to notify the public of traffic impacts. Visit the project website for more information and to sign up to receive project updates.

The project is estimated to cost approximately $5.9 million and is expected for completion in July.
