Greater Parkcrest was very busy this spring. GreaterParkcrest.org allows us a way to connect neighbors with the projects for the Neat Neighborhoods contest and to City resources for new and existing neighbors.
In late April to early May, Greater Parkcrest neighbors joined together to promote a two-weekend garage sale allowing residents to repurpose items to new homes that were otherwise destined for the landfill.
On May 4, Greater Parkcrest, along with Mark Twain and Fassnight neighborhoods, held our spring clean up at Sunset Church of Christ. The neighborhood cleanup program is provided by the City of Springfield and coordinated by Community Partnership of the Ozarks. Thirty-five volunteers from the three neighborhoods along with volunteers from the Sunset Church of Christ participated in the event for a total of 142 volunteer hours. Not only did they bring items that will help clean and beautify their homes, but they also generously donated monies to help fund future events in each of the neighborhoods. The event collected 14 dumpsters of general waste and four dumpsters of yard waste in addition to two trailers of scrap metal and a box truck of electronics for recycling. We invite neighbors to volunteer by contacting us with more ideas for Clean Green and Neat Neighborhoods.
Some nice improvements to the Greater Parkcrest neighborhood are continuing at Horace Mann Park. The park is an approximately 150-foot strip along the north border of Horace Mann Elementary School. Many residents aren’t aware that it is a city park. Recent improvements are the addition of a new pavilion adjacent to the tennis court, changes to the chain link fencing around the court to allow easier access to the court, and we are hopeful that the single tennis court will be permanently converted into two Pickleball courts to help facilitate the growing demand for more Pickleball courts in our city. These improvements are funded through grants available to the 24 registered neighborhood associations in our city.
