Phelps Grove/Fassnight trail connection complete

Construction for a multi-use Ozark Greenways trail connecting the Fassnight and Phelps Grove parks and neighborhoods began in October 2021 and is complete ahead of schedule.

The trail connection begins at Clay Avenue, continues east through Phelps Grove Park and ends at Brookside Drive near the Springfield Art Museum main entrance. The new 1,600 linear-foot path includes handicap-accessible ramps and connects to shared bike lanes on Brookside Drive over a new pedestrian bridge, expected to be complete by spring.

Construction was funded through federal Surface Transportation Block Grant (STBG) funds with the City of Springfield providing a 20% match through the 1/8-cent Transportation Sales Tax.

“Thanks to our partners with the Ozarks Transportation Organization, Ozark Greenways, Inc., the Springfield-Greene County Park Board and Springfield Art Museum for working with us to receive this grant funding and to complete this important trail connection,” said Public Works Project Manager Joe Hamp.

The new Fassnight Trail connection through Phelps Grove Park is complete and now connects bicycles and pedestrians from Clay Avenue through the park to Art Museum grounds.  Construction crews have yet to install the pedestrian bridge near the entrance to the Art Museum. This portion of the project is expected for completion in the spring.
