Restore SGF’s newest program helps low-income seniors make needed home repairs, accessibility improvements

Thanks to a grant from the Greene County Citizens’ Service Fund, Restore SGF has launched its newest grant program: Healthy Homes for Seniors.

This program supports low-income senior homeowners aged 60+ by providing dollar-for-dollar matching grants of up to $5,000 for essential home improvements. The program focuses on accessibility upgrades for aging in place and energy-efficient repairs to help manage utility costs.

Eligible neighborhoods include Doling Park East, Fassnight, Grant Beach, Meador Park East, and Woodland Heights, to enhance housing stability for seniors on fixed incomes who have median household income of 120% or below the median income for Greene County. For example, single adults must earn $68,450 or less. Couples must have a combined income of $78,250 or less.

Applicants may have to provide Restore SGF their most recent federal income tax return along with their most recent 30 days of payroll/income statements to prove eligibility.

How it works

Seniors or family members fill out initial application that can be found on restoresgf.com. Application details the repairs to be made and why those repairs are necessary to improve the senior’s health and well-being in his/her home.

Once the initial application is approved, the applicant will meet with the Restore SGF construction specialist, if desired, to go over the project and provide input on the project. The construction specialist can provide a list of preferred contractors.

The applicant then obtains written bids on all the repairs outlined in the initial application process. After the bids have been collected, the applicant can request another meeting with the construction specialist at Restore SGF to review the bids, to clarify the scope of work and outline the step-by-step process that will be completed.

Work will be completed by the selected contractor. During the process, the applicant is free to contact Restore SGF and the construction specialist with any questions or concerns. The construction specialist is available to speak with contractors at any time to clarify and any questions the homeowner might have about the work being done or the process. This is to ensure the senior homeowner that they are not being taken advantage of and that they are getting the repairs they are paying for.

Once work is 100% complete, inspected by Restore SGF and deemed acceptable, the applicant will apply for reimbursement for 50% of the cost of the repairs or $5,000, whichever is less. Restore SGF will process the request and issue payment in the form of a check to the applicant within 30 days.
