Sculpture honoring Terry Whaley revealed at Frisco Highline Trailhead

Ozark Greenways revealed a sculpture honoring retired executive director Terry Whaley Aug. 23 at the Kearney Street Trailhead for the Frisco Highline Trail.

The metal sculpture, by Joe Malesky, depicts a team of five life-sized cyclists. The lead cyclist has “TW 22” on its chest, referencing Whaley’s 22 years of service with Ozark Greenways. The piece, which incorporates recycled bicycle parts, is unnamed, but Whaley is rumored to be considering an appropriate title.

Malesky is also the creator of a sculpture installed as part of Sculpture Walk Springfield earlier this year in Jordan Valley Park, titled Alone in the Crowd.

Whaley retired in 2017 after 22 years as executive director. The nonprofit trail advocacy organization was created in 1991.
