Meet Springfield Police Sergeant Ryan Russell, the new supervisor of SPD’s Community Service Section support squad. Sgt. Russell oversees SPD’s police area representatives (PAR) officers, as well as officers who work in crime prevention, Neighborhood Watch, Business Watch and special events.
Sgt. Russell grew up in Eminence and married his high school sweetheart. Together, they have three sons.
Sgt. Russell has been in law enforcement since 1996, beginning his career with the Johnson County, Kansas Sheriff’s Office and moving to SPD in 2001. At SPD, he’s served in a variety of roles including working in patrol, training and financial crimes. He’s also served as SPD’s professional development coordinator and range officer.
Sgt. Russell wanted to work in SPD’s Community Services Section because he feels it allows officers to be proactively involved in finding solutions to a wide variety of issues.
“As officers, we all strive to improve the quality of life for our communities. I feel that this position will best allow me to contribute to that challenge,” he said.
Sgt. Russell says in his new role, he hopes to establish an empowering relationship between the police department and all segments of the community through maintaining and expanding an open line of communication.
