The holiday season can be a challenging time of year for many in the community. Navigating family dynamics and emotionally charged situations is hard. With that, the Springfield Police Department sees an increase in reports of domestic violence in the last three months of the year.
Domestic violence is never the victim’s fault. It is never trivial, excusable, or deserved. It is a crime that knows no social or socioeconomic bounds and can happen anywhere to anyone.
If you find yourself in a conflict, remember that time and distance equal control. Before the conflict escalates, separate from the situation. Distance from the conflict can allow you to think of a resolution that doesn’t include violence.
Anytime the Springfield Police Department receives a call about domestic violence, an officer will respond as quickly as possible.
We know that victims of domestic violence may need additional services because it affects all aspects of a person’s life. The Greene County Family Justice Center serves as a central hub of resources for victims or potential victims of domestic violence. Onsite partners like Harmony House, The Victim Center, Burrell Behavioral Health, Legal Services of Southwest Missouri, and the Greene County Prosecutor work together with us to provide comprehensive services to help survivors stay safe. All services are free, confidential and victim-centered.
