More than 25 West Central Neighbors jumped in to clean up historic Jordan Creek west of the Birthplace of Route 66 Roadside Park in the fall as part of the Clean Green Springfield effort. Together, they pulled up tons of trash, everything from shopping carts to swimming pools. Using ropes, they pulled the trash up the banks to be hauled away. Caroline Murski, event organizer said, “Everyone came together to make a huge difference! We can’t wait to do it again this spring!”
The creek is part of the proposed Ozark Greenway Trail and has long been the site of encampments. Precautions were taken to remove discarded hypodermic needles, as well as the tents, blankets and sleeping bags that were stuck to the bottom of the creek. The event was hosted by Bissett Neighborhood Association President Russell Moore, who treated everyone to a pizza party afterwards.
