Woodland Heights catches the edged-curbs bug for Neat Neighborhoods

0

In May and June, prompted by the musings and observations of our fearless and inspiring leader, Becky Volz, Woodland Heights jumped headfirst into the Neat Neighborhoods competition.

We wanted, of course, to pick up as much trash from neighborhood streets as possible, but we also knew that we could do so much more. And Becky had recently mentioned during a neighborhood meeting, how wonderful she thought edged curbs and sidewalks looked and how she felt they truly epitomized a “neat neighborhood.”

With a little bit of prompting, our group caught the bug of edging. It is so satisfying! A group of neighborhood volunteers has traveled multiple neighborhood streets edging curbs and sidewalks, bringing a crisp and clean look to our Woodland Heights streets.

The most satisfying part of tidying up the neighborhood has been forging new connections with neighbors. Neighbors, previously unknown to our group, have seen our volunteers out working and stopped (edging tools already in hand) to help.

Everyone wants to live in a tidy neighborhood. Serious progress is being made in Woodland Heights, and we have a lot of joyful work left to do to make this neighborhood as neat as it can be.
